Defeat from the jaws of victory!

E1 Entertainment
Director: Wyatt McDill
Writer: Wyatt McDill
Stars: Justin Kirk, Terryn Westbrook and Sam Rosen

What they say: Trevor (Justin Kirk), Amber (Terryn Westbrook) and Rob (Sam Rosen) stumble upon a bizarre voyeuristic website Fourboxes.tv, featuring Havoc, a man who sleeps in a cage and builds bombs in his basement. After they learn his mass murdering plot may be more than fiction, they have a choice… stop him or let innocent people die.

What I say: Four Boxes is a very low budget film, but don’t hold that against it. There are some really good ideas present, but foolish decisions on the part of the filmmakers bring it down. For a movie about tech savvy people, why oh why do the films music and graphics feel like they come from the Atari 2600 era. The film was supposed to take place in 2005, not 1975.

It doesn’t help anything that Trevor, Amber, and Rob are all three annoying as hell. Amber even goes so far as to talk in text-speak, saying things like BFD and OMG. It’s kewl or something.

The story wasn’t bad, with a cool twist dropped on you about three quarters of the way through, but then after that we are subjected to the dumbest, most out of left field ending I have ever seen. Despite the annoying characters, I was digging the movie until then. Defeat snatched from the jaws of victory.

From the above you might think I didn’t like the movie, but I did enjoy it to a point. The ending just knocked it down with its silliness.

Film: 6/10
