April 5, 2012

Shout! Factory
Stars: Tom Kenny, David Boat and Steve Blum

What they say: The fate of the universe rests in the hands (or should we say on the hand) of whoever wears the Infinity Gauntlet, a mystical glove that gives its owner all the power of the cosmos! And if Thanos has his way, he’ll be wearing the Infinity Gauntlet very soon! But first he has to acquire each of the gems required to power the gauntlet, and the only thing in his way is the teamwork of the exciting and lovable Super Hero Squad: Iron Man, the Hulk, Thor, Wolverine, Falcon and Scarlet Witch! The second uproariously funny and adventure-filled season of The Super Hero Squad Show nears its conclusion!

Featuring the special guest voice talents of Michael Dorn (Star Trek: The Next Generation), Mark Hamill (Star Wars), Katee Sackhoff (Battlestar Galactica) and George Takei (Star Trek)!

What I say: Marvel is a pretty shrewd company. By continually supporting animation they are consistently renewing their fan base. Most comic fans under 30 came to the hobby as a result of the X-Men and Spider-Man cartoons of the 90’s and The Super Hero Squad Show looks to carry on that tradition with the next generation.

These cartoons are aimed squarely at kids but they are also not afraid to fully explore the Marvel Universe and its vast wealth of characters. In this run of episodes, the six part Six against Infinity, reeling from their betrayal by The Dark Surfer, the separated Super Hero Squad members are sent to a variety of alternate dimensions. Thor meets Beta Ray Bill, Falcon and H.E.R.B.I.E. face off against an evil Scarlet Witch, Iron Man is trapped in a world of monsters like Man Thing, Werewolf by Night and more, Wolverine encounters the High Evolutionary and Devil Dinosaur (?!?), Hulk lands on a world resembling the Planet Hulk story line, and finally Scarlet Witch arrives in the world of 1602.

These episodes do a fantastic job of introducing kids to the breadth of the Marvel Universe and they are quite fun to boot. Seeing obscure fan favorites like Man Thing and Devil Dinosaur are a real treat for long time fans as well.

The voice cast is fun and they do a great job with the comedy bits and really get their characters across. The animation is fluid and attention grabbing. I watched these episodes with my 6 year old son and he loved them! He even asked for comic books! See Marvel, you’ve done it again, hooked another one.
