What they say: Steven (Joshua Ormond) is a young boy who’s sent to live with his grandmother (Academy Award winner Cloris Leachman) and grandfather in the country while his mother (Tara Reid) and father work through their marital troubles. Though his grandparents warn him to stay away from the corn stalks near their house, Steven can’t help but be drawn into the fields. At the same time, news reports of the murderous Manson Family horrify the nation. Then, strange things start happening: noises come from the fields at night and the family dogs disappear. Gradually, the happenings turn more horrifying, and Steven soon finds himself in the midst of a real life nightmare.
What I say: Top five ways you know a movie sucks; 1) There is a name on the poster of a “star” that is barely in the film, 2)That “star” is Tara Reid who has the acting ability of a brick (My apologies to bricks), 3)The words “Based in Actual Events” are used, 4) The most shocking thing in your horror movie is hearing Cloris Leachman say “Fuck!” and 5) You know who the killer is the first time you see him.
Now I watch a lot of stuff, some good, some great, some crap, and I give it all a fair shake but The Fields was so all over the place I think I completely shut down as I cannot remember chunks of the film. The film which is so obvious that a deaf man in a coma who had his eyes gouged out could solve it. But besides all that, the story is dumb, the “acting” is horrendous and Tara Reid once again proves she either puts out or sold her soul to the devil. And Cloris Leachman, who should certainly know better, says “Fuck!” a lot…a whole lot.
There are extras such as Cloris outtakes, a making of, the world premiere, a behind-the-scenes, photo gallery, and trailers. Yay?
Film: 5/10
DVD: 8/10
