Framed And Ready For The Raffle!

Just wanted to post a quick update on the upcoming charity raffle for the Indiana Jones World Maps created by master artist Matt Busch.

The maps have been framed and are ready for delivery to Ravenswood Comics in Utica and Cloud City Comics in Syracuse. The frames really make the maps pop when you look at them. I’ve posted some pictures for you to check it out:

These are beautiful maps, with only a limited print-run and extremely hard to find.

There are only two maps being raffled off. One in each store. The proceeds earned will be documented, and donated to the Stevens-Swan Humane Society in Utica, NY. The raffle starts June 1st in both stores, and closes June 30th.

If you are not near either of those stores, arrangements can be made to purchase raffle tickets for you by emailing me at DrWhoFan@comcast.net and following the steps given.

Remeber, these are the only two legitimately available prints of the Indiana Jones World Maps. And these two stores are the only reputable places you can find them. Don’t let the opportunity slip away to buy a ticket. Take the chance, and know that you can come back here in July and to Stevens-Swan’s website and see that the money actually went to a charity. No court order needed to show we do exactly what we say we’re going to do!

Have you read the small print on the maps? It’s quite specific as to who should receive the funds.

It would be disrespectful to go against the cause specified.

    • Jeff H

Hi Cat. Yes, it would be disrespectful to go against the cause. As a former serviceman, I understand the importance of assisting veterans.

But this was not something done aganst Matt’s wishes. If you read the post “http://www.aboutheroes.com/?p=12735″, you’ll see the email exchange between myself and Matt.

There’s not much we can do for a major veteran’s group with just two maps. So thinking on a smaller scale we went with helping a local humane society as it’s a smaller and closer cause to the hearts of myself, Janine at Ravenswood, and Jeff at Cloud City Comics. Janine has always done what she can for Stevens-Swan, and Jeff talks about his animals rights work in our Free Comic Book Day podcast.

But most importantly, Matt himself said go ahead and liked the idea. If he had said he only wanted us to use it for a veterans’ charity then we would have tried to find some way to make it work that way.

I don’t find it disrespectful if we’re given the blessing of the actual creator of the maps, and like he even said, two maps are just a drop in the bucket and wouldn’t do much for any veterans charity.

And I don’t find your comment disrespectful to anyone at all. I hope I explained accurately the reasoning behind the decision. If you have any questions, please email me or Matt, or just leave another post here.

      Jeff

Quick Update: When I email & informed Cat her post had been replied to, I received the following message:

“Hi. I assumed my email was not relevant to the comment. Please kindly do not email me about any matter. Thanks.”

      Weird.

  • Matthew

Jeff Hartz you said, “No court order needed to show we do exactly what we say we’re going to do!”

I can find no post, comment or article stating who won the map at Cloud City Comics or how much was raised. The raffle was supposed to take place and end months ago. If you are a man of your word, you will update this situation or once again show a way you and Rick Olney are similar.

    • Jeff

Hey Matthew. Sorry for the delay in responding. Things have been hectic. In reply to your comment. Jeff Watkins and I put a hold on the raffle at Cloud City Comics until he could get into the new store location and get everything settled. My apologies for not announcing that. We’re looking for the best time to actually go ahead, although some other ideas were mentioned that we’re looking into as an alternative. Kepp checking back here, because when it does happen it will be announced, recorded and posted.
