The Hollywood Reporter just announced the voice cast to the up and coming new DC Comics Premiere Movie…THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS!
While I’ve enjoyed a lot of the DC animated movies, (Justice League: The New Frontier and Batman: Under the Red Hood being my personal favorites) I think it’s fair to say that THIS was the adaptation we wanted to see from them since they announced doing animated movies in the first place. Oh, and get this, its going to be a two parter movie! The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 will be out in the fall and The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 will come out in early 2013.
The films will be directed by Jay Oliva and written by Bob Goodman and will star Peter Weller (ROBOCOP BABY!!) as Batman; Ariel Winter (Modern Family) as Robin ;David Selby (of Dark Shadows fame), Wade Williams (Prison Break) as Harvey Dent/Two-Face; and Michael McKean (Spinal Tap) will play Dr. Wopler.
Casting Peter Weller as Batman is pretty much perfect to me, and I think it’s great the story will be cut into two parts. My one complaint with the DC animated movies is that they only can put so much story as they can in their allotted 70mins that they have to edit out a lot of the comic their adapting. (See All Star Superman for example) Knowing how important The Dark Knight Returns is, it makes sense to give it the special treatment and to try to get as much of this classic Frank Miller comic in the film.
Check out a few mores stills that I liked for the film below and do check out the full article in the link so you can see what producer Bruce Timm has to say about the project AND more still from the film. (Click here)
