Watch the trailer here in lovely HD.
Like I said a few days ago (click here) I’d come back and do another discussion.
Yep, lets all continue to agree that the idiots who work at Entertainment Tonight did a fantastic job on making this footage look really bad.
Next, my feelings on Ryan Reynolds, I will gladly say I overreacted. The “Ryan Reynold-y” moments that we saw in the E.T. promo are really the only times it feels that jokey as they look to be playing Reynolds Hal Jordan straight and dramatic. For the rest of the trailer Reynolds seems like he’s going to deliver. (Though Blake Lively’s performance looks stiff as a board here.)
The CGI costume still looks iffy, BUT I can say I’m digging the cosmic stuff. Sure, I personally wish Tomar Re and Kilowog were puppets and special make up effects, but it still is pretty cool to see them in this trailer. I also love seeing OA, and Hal flying through space. I always thought the best way to play Green Lantern is to make it like Star Wars but with superheroes, and it looks like that’s what we’re getting.
The thing that’s very obvious to me about this trailer is that there is a very “Iron Man” influenced vibe to the whole ordeal.
DC films is getting ready to start matching what Marvel Films has been doing, and kinda taking the same formula makes sense.
Take a B-List character( Iron Man for Marvel, Green Lantern for DC) who’s popular to fans but not as well known to the general public, cast a known and respected actor (Robert Downey Jr and Ryan Reynolds), make the lead character a talented but reckless womanizer with a sense of humor, let him learn responsibility through gaining his powers, cast a blonde actress to dye her hair to play his love/hate female character (Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively), have him fight a decent FIRST bad guy with no goofy supervillan codename (Iron Mans Obadiah Stane and Green Lanterns Hector Hammond), start setting up his arch-nemesis (The Mandarin and Sinestro) and finish the trailer with the main character flying fast through the sky.
My overall thoughts now that I saw the trailer cut properly? While I’m not sure it looks like a home run, I think it’s starting to look promising.
The trailer promises an epic sci-fi/superhero adventure, and I really do hope it delivers, because in the end, wouldn’t it be better to hope for something good to come out of this?
And if this doesn’t work? Well….lets hope Thor an Captain America don’t fall on it’s asses as hard next year…
