Darkwing Duck 5-7 Review

“Crisis on Infinite Darkwings 1-3″

Just when I thought the best book of 2010 couldn’t get any better, it does! Negaduck has teamed with Magica De Spell to travel the multiverse and capture multiple Darkwing Ducks. Their plan? Unleash total chaos on St. Canard and ruin Darkwing once and for all. Unbeknownst to Negaduck, Magica is only doing this to get close to Launchpad and have him help her steal Scrooge McDuck’s number one dime! (God I love this Disney Continuity!)

Morgana Mcrawber also shows up for this arc. Darkwing is confused while there are these multiple alternate versions of himself running around unleashing havoc. What’s worse is there is a new threat messing with the St. Canard water supply. Determined to do something, DW stages a press conference to try and clear his name and also find out what is endangering the waters of St. Canard. DW, as well as myself immediately thought that the Liquidator is behind this madness. Surprisingly that is not the case. Liquidator shows up at the press conference and tell Darkwing there is something far more sinister beneath the waves. Before DW can investigate the multiple Darkwing Ducks from various dimensions attack the city. Some great DW’s are show in this segment: A Golden Surfer DW, Dark Warrior Duck from the episode “Time and Punishment”, Dracula Darkwing, Werewolf Darkwing, Green Arrow Darkwing and even a Gill-Duck Darkwing/Creature from the Black Lagoon version.

Gosalyn suits up in the Gizmo Duck armor and becomes Gosmo Duck. Launchpad, now head of quackwerks uses the newly programed hero bots to help save the city. Darkwing and Morgana are attacked by Green Arrow Darkwing and realize Negaduck is behind this. Morgana also states that she can follow the magical aura possessing the Darkwings and track it back to the source. She explains that Magica De Spell is working with Negaduck. Darkwing has no idea who that is and Magica asks “Didn’t Launchpad tell you about Magica?” to which Darkwing states “Doesn’t ring a bell, but his mouth was probably full of chili fries or pretzels if he did!” LOL, I love this book so much :)

DW, Morgana and Gosmo Duck go to Negaducks lair. Magica uses a magic siphoning device to drain Morgana’s magic making her even more powerful. Gosmo Duck fights Werewolf Darkwing while DW and Negaduck duke it out. Negaduck states he wants to rid the entire multiverse of every version of Darkwing Duck forever! Once his alternate DW’s destroy the city, he’s going to destroy them. Morgana finally gets a fix on what evil is lurking beneath the waters of St Canard due to her magic loss and it’s revealed to be Paddywhack, inter dimensional terror! (He possessed Quackerjack’s Mr. Banana Brain doll in a DW cartoon episode “The Haunting of Mr. Banana Brain)

Thoughts/Comments:

WOW! I LOVE this comic. Seriously, I haven’t had so much fun reading a comic in years. The story has really raised the stakes for this arc. Not only has Magica joined forces with Negaduck and brought hundreds of Darkwings from other dimensions to do their dirty work, Paddywhack is back to! I had no clue they would use him, great idea and excellent nod to the cartoon show. The art still dazzles, big props to James Silvani for his awesome renditions of all the different Darkwing Ducks. Ian Brill knows his Disney Afternoon history, lots of amazing nods to the cartoons we all love as well as crafting an larger, epic story following “The Duck Knight returns.” The jokes are great, the characterization is spot on and this is the first comic I read every time I get my new comics shipment. Can’t wait to see what happens next. A+++ all the way. Let’s Get Dangerous!
