The Dark Knight Rises with Bane and Catwoman?! Casting News!
January 19, 2011

Finally, some real news on this movie! It’s a bit of a surprised to say the least.

While Catwoman was always speculated to be in this one, Bane came out of nowhere.

I have no clue how director Christopher Nolan is going to make these two work in the narrative, but that’s the same way I felt when he included Joker and Two Face in The Dark Knight, or when he included Ra’s Al Ghul and Scarecrow in Batman Begins. He always found a way to make two villains work in the films with out it feeling crowed . Ahem, look at some of OTHER Batman movies that did a poor job in this field .

Anne Hathaway is an interesting choice and not the obvious choice, but then again, so was Heath Ledger as Joker. Now, I’m not saying that Hathaway’s performance as Catwoman is going to be to be that good, but it’s the kind of out of the box casting that makes Nolan’s Batman films kinda great.

Theirs also a fun angle and reasoning on how you could include Catwoman. In Frank Millers Batman Year One comic, Selina Kyle was inspired by Batman to wear a costume. In Nolans film they’ve already established that citizens of Gotham are inspired by Batman and start wearing Batman costumes. Selina could just be an extension of that. Here’s hoping that Hathaway has better results then the previous actress who played Catwoman.

As for Tom Hardy, he is a fantastic choice as Bane. If you got Netflix streaming watch BRONSON, and you can see a man who’s going to play a fantastic (and frightening) Bane. It’s also makes much more sense then any of the other characters he was rumored to play (Detective Harvey Bullock and Hugo Strange).

Lets all hope that Nolan could break the third superhero movie curse (x3: The Last Stand, Spider-Man 3, Superman 3, Batman Forever…)
