Omar Valdivieso
In the beginning Dan and Omar created the site which was to be known as Aboutheroes!!! Although Dan was the Alpha to my Omega; he is way too busy fighting copyright infringement to run the show (I really don’t have a man-crush on Dan). So now is the age of Omar running AH. I feel like the Red Dwarf years without Rob Grant and it became the Naylor years. Which hey, it still kicked all kinds of ass!! But if it goes to shit, we can all blame Dan.
I’ve been reading comics, watching anime and collecting toys for over 30 years now. While Wolverine is still the man, I really haven’t enjoyed an X-man comic in years. Thanks for setting the bar so high Whedon. Nightwing is still my favorite DC character…always living in the shadow of the Bat, but hitting bitches left and right any time he can. My favorite anime of all time is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann. I have two wonderful daughters who are way into My Little Pony and a wonderful wife who is obsessed with collecting the figures too. Shows I’m watching: Sherlock, Game of Thrones, Doctor Who and Mad Men. Still playing videogames Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom. Nobody can touch my Ryu!!
Chris Heltzel
Actually it’s more like Hollywood Chris now a days. Living the dream in Los Angeles along with my girlfriend Natalie and saving the world one movie at a time. Still reading the Goon and Hellboy and writing movie scripts out the wazooo!
Spider-Ben
Yuuuuuuuuuup it’s Ben Bennett. For the past few years I've been known as Spider-Ben to all of my friends. Chris gave me that name and it just sticked! I got into comic books back in 1992 when the X-Men animated series was playing on the Fox network. I noticed after the opening credits there was a Marvel Comics logo, which led to me going to my first comic book store. The X-Men were my favorite heroes from the get-go, which is a surprise considering that I'm a total Spider-Man fanatic.
I got into Spider-Man when my best friend at the time Josh was spending the night at my place and we went to rent some Super-Nintendo video games. We rented the Spider-Man and the X-Men: Arcades Revenge game. The first level required players to play as Spidey first before meeting up with the X-Men. I was mad at first cause Wolverine was my favorite hero at the time and I wanted to play as him instead of Spidey. But as I played as Spidey, crawling walls and shooting webs something clicked within. Suddenly, Wolverine wasn't quite as fascinating as this crimson clad wall crawling hero.
This led to my first Spider-Man comic, Amazing Spider-Man #362. This was part 2 of the Carnage arc and I had no idea what the hell was going on! Who was this crazy guy shooting red things from his arms? Why is Spider-Man going to a desert island with a big honking gun to find some muscular guy laying on the beach? Why is the red guy going to the newspaper and threatening some old man who runs the paper? Needless to say, I had a lot of buying and research to catch up on.
My favorite comic books right now are Ultimate Spider-Man, Batman, Uncanny X-force, Darkwing Duck (RIP), Avengers Academy and Justice League. I also love the Transformers and the biggest fan of Power Rangers!!! Zeo Ranger Red baby!! My favorite DC hero is Batman. Chef Ramsey is the man and I can’t wait for Hotel Nightmares!

Jeff Hartz
Jeff Hartz hosts the East Coast About Heroes podcast and interviews from from his hometown of Utica, NY. He first heard of About Heroes after Episode 12 was downloaded on iTunes and sent his first of many, many emails to the gang, becoming an "at large" member of the show and historian of comics for the site. It was with Jeff assistance that Dan finally got Omar and Melanie hooked on Doctor Who, and he continues to convert more followers with every season. His favorite DC hero is SHAZAM! and his favorite Marvel hero is Captain America. His favorite team is the pre-Crisis Justice Society of America. In addition to his love of comics, and Doctor Who, Jeff has been involved in community theatre for over 25 years and currently volunteers with civic groups in his hometown such as the Arts West Alliance where he chairs the PR & Marketing committee.
It was Jeff's efforts that brought About Heroes to the attention of Joe Quesada, bringing him on the show as a guest in 2007. But he forgives Joe for his decision to not bring back ROM, The Spaceknight!!!
Ray Hoey
Ray Hoey is an old school comic book fan...hell, old school pop culture geek! (He remembers, "Jason of Star Command" on CBS back in the early 80's) He grew up in the Neal Adams/Denny O Neil era of "Batman" comics, saw the original "Star Wars" trilogy when they first came out in theaters, a fun time to be a geek! Then, for a long time, he took a REALLY LONG hiatus (in which he discovered performing magic...long before David Blaine and Criss Angel made it "fashionable" on TV) then came back to comics in the late 2000's...partly thanks to listening to About Heroes podcasts! After listening to AH religiously, he started sending emails (that they would read on the air) and it finally culminated with his first participation live on a podcast (via Skype), on the 100th episode, where he got to perform some magic over Skype! So, when Ray isn't levitating ladies or sawing them in half, he now writes the column, "3R - Ray's Retro Reviews" in which he reviews comics & trades that he has yet to discover since he was away for so long. (But then, every comic will always be SOMEONE'S first comic, so why not?) He also contributes reviews or essays of any other pop culture topic that tickles his fancy. So, hold on, and let's see what happens next!"
Justin Quizon
Justin is a film junkie and comic nerd for as long as he can remember. He started getting obessed with who directed what film and who drew what comic since he was 9. He then started wondering who wrote what film, and who wrote what comic when he was 13. He now knows too much about both. He now works in LA doing all sorts of random work for TV and film.
Matt Cross
Greetings one and all! My name is Matt, most of you will know me as Baby Matt if you've heard me on the podcast. I've known most of these guys here for a while, and was recently asked to officially become part of About Heroes, which I gladly accepted!
I've been in to the world of the geek pretty much all my life. I grew up on comics and video games and toy collecting and the like. Through the years I've faded in and out of collecting comics, but always managed to get drawn back in. Comics were the gateway that led me to meeting Omar, Ben, and Chris, which I'm very grateful for as I've had a lot of good times with these dudes.
As for what I'm in to now, pretty much the exact same thing! Still collecting comics and toys, catching up on some great stuff I missed while I wasn't collecting, and enjoying my toy reviews that I post up on Youtube (check it out! youtube.com/RiderXero is me!). From me you'll see things mainly revolving around comics and toys, and I plan to start getting toy reviews going soon. Lots of new stuff out and coming out and things I already have that will make for good material I hope you all enjoy!
YeahbuhWHAT?
This dumbass looking piñata is our MacGuffin for Aboutheroes. Anytime something screws up around here it’s this things fault!!! But seriously we all await a proper Mage follow-up!
